California Democrats Go ALL IN On Censorship

California’s Democratic Governor, Gavin Newsom, has signed into law a social media “transparency” bill that he says protects residents from hate and disinformation posts spread through social media platforms. Social media platforms will now be required to publicly post their policies regarding hate speech, disinformation, harassment and extremism on their platforms and report data on their enforcement of the policies. So is this bill about protecting children from hate and stemming the flow of disinformation, or is it about government exerting control over what members of the public can see and hear in clear violation of the first amendment?

Jimmy and The Dive’s Jackson Hinkle discuss this latest trip down the censorship road from California Democrats.

  1. Scary thing isn't so much that Newsom is doing this but that so many people are OK with it. In fact many Dems are upset he isn't censoring more. Most conservatives just want to be left alone but the block wardens won't let them, so they will have to act.

  2. Leave ALL These major Platforms and go Directly to Sites ! These Fashests are the Treght ! Diabolical Monsters, when all else. Fails They us the Kids ! 👹💰🤬🖕✌️

  3. The way I see this is, the big social platforms are already defacto arms of the government. They will be happy to do this and are already effectively doing this because they are no longer providing the service they purport to; they are government propaganda machines. I am assuming the only way to "enforce" this is to require it of businesses that physically have headquarters in CA, following the pattern of innovation leaving this utter craphole I used to lovingly call my home.

This is one step proceeding what is already happening in the UK. Not too long ago a man had multiple officers come to his home to tell him he had committed a crime of gross offense by positing a question about an anti-trans meme. They told him he either signed a document admitting his guilt and paying a fine or have a note atttached to his name for months stating he had committed a hate crime. All that the U.S. has to protect us from this is the 1st amendment, and this is a serious injury to that founding principle.

Look up the UK's 2003 Communications Act Section 127. It is Orwellian and it is coming for the free world.

  4. The difference is that the laws in Florida and Texas regulating social media are laws to enforce transperancy and make social media companies justify why they are canceling comments and posts.

  5. Now that many of my old wealthy hippie friends are leaving the urban west coast hellscapes, you guys will have fewer congresspersons and the rural areas will have more. In 5 years the right will be able to call a constitutional convention and pass the result so get ready to give us our rights back.

  6. The last time anything was published that I can find about Newsomes daughters vaccine was saying she was to be getting vaccinated in a matter of days. There are no published stories about this after Oct 21 2021 that I can find.

  7. Do you really think Newsom or any other Democrat in California cares about votes? Why would you care when you have the power to rig the vote to come out any which way you want?

  8. Ever notice how 99% of the bullshit these creeps pass off as action is just a pile of paperwork and extra costs being piled onto businesses?

It doesn't actually do the intended thing—not that we should want the state to have this power anyway. But suppose for a moment that we did.

The only real effect of all of this is to make it prohibitively expensive for anyone who can't afford a team of lawyers to start up any kind of social media site. On top of all the other things that go into starting a business, now you need to officially establish your moderation policies with the government annually and keep track of all of your moderation actions to report on them, or else.

Imagine being some guy in his garage trying to set up a website. That's where they come from, you know. Someone has an idea and uses the internet to bring it about, because it's relatively cheap and easy, and one person's work can scale to millions of people. Some of the most successful tech companies in the world started like that.

But now that those tech companies have their piece of the pie, of course they have to ask the state to crush the life out of it like they've done with every other industry. Erect all manner of questionable "regulations" until ordinary people can't compete anymore, watch the usual corporate cartels lock it down, and that's it. If you want to be involved, you can seek employment with one of the companies that bribed the government to make it this way, but forget about trying to compete. We don't do that in this country anymore.

  9. I USED TO LIVE IN SAN DIEGO EARLY 2000S WHEN I WAS ON THE ROAD WITH MY BAND. IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE I'M SURE I WOULDN'T EVEN RECOGNIZE IT NOW. I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY ANYBODY WOULD WANT TO LIVE TO CALIFORNIA CONSIDERING THE CRAZY WOKE HOLLYWOOD MOVEMENT NOW CENSORSHIP IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND IT'S NOT JUST CALIFORNIA FACEBOOK SENDS ME WARNINGS ALL THE TIME AND A LOT OF MY POSTS ARE TAKEN DOWN SAME WITH YOU TUBE. AND IF YOU SAY ANYTHING DEROGATORY ABOUT ANY OF THIS WELL YOU'RE A CONSTITUTIONALIST. GOD DAMN RIGHT I'M A CONSTITUTIONALIST MANY MANY PEOPLE HAVE FALLEN DIED TO KEEP THIS A FREE COUNTRY AND YOU JUST SPITTING IN THE FACE OF ALL THOSE PEOPLE
