2022
nothing much has changed since 47
Seems they didn't really believe in lane marking and weaved all over the road….
I imagine the Waarugal Road 'dip' at 1:08 is approx where the Monash freeway now charges through along the valley.
I've seen skateboarders 🛹 go faster than those old jalopies.
Just in future you put the suburb which the road is in in this issue won’t happen again
You can see the change, just.
How good was Victoria. Dogsville now.
Ah yes, I remember it well.
I'm pretty sure the blue Bedford Ventura bus on Warrigal Road in the opening scenes is the one driven by my favourite bus driver 'Jock', who transported me daily from Haig Street, Burwood to Oakleigh State School, from 1950 to 1952.
I remember particularly the bus's modern 'cab over' design and the 'crash' manual gearbox, requiring quite some driving skill.
It was always a good start to the day when it was Jock's bus that arrived at the morning stop.
Wot…….no traffic lights !!!!!
Great footage, thank you.
I've often wondered what peak hour looked like in the past. 😆
If only the Victorian governments had of kept investing is safe roads ahead of traffic growth!
Thanks for sharing! Any more from little known bridges from Melbourne would be awesome!
….and everybody getting along just fine without traffic lights. Realistically though, with today's traffic volume that wouldn't work.
They're labor voting suburbs mentioned
Yes pleSE BEAM ME BACK TO 1954 sCOTTY.
Loved the look of that old bus
Great old time film , Love it many thanks !
wow…
It sounds like (and is really) a propaganda video…..
"Trust us covering everything with asphalt so large machines can spew noxious lead based fumes is what will make our country the greatest." Not exactly a Riefenstahl classic but effective enough for the masses to lap up.
what a gem.
The music sounds like it came from a 78 record.
Where are all the cars?
Very good . I'm trying to figure out how google knows this stuff would be of interest to me when I'm using a VPN and I'm routed via Britain.
Dont laugh .. dictator Dan Andrews is still building the m1 after 21 years
Ah 1947 – the year I arrived
Interesting to note that at this time of the vid the national debt post WW2 was about 110ish % of GDP. Today the $1 trillion debt is only about 30% of GDP. It just came to me that LOL.
It's great to see my backyard instead of everyone elses.
More and more specialised ! But we never fixed the problem!
Not a traffic light in sight and hence no traffic jams. I know!
How come all broadcasters in those days had posh accents?
Ok those trees were planted perfectly 100 years prior alone a road only just created. Extraordinary.
Same as Springvale junction it shod have been a huge Roundabout from the Very Beginning.
I love these old clips !
When Australia was Australia
Considering it was 1947 it actually has quite a lot of traffic on it.
Im always wondering just when Nepean was constructed.
THE HOUSE ON THE CORNER IS STILL THERE,PROB COST 1000 THEN,NOW PROB 1500000
0:07 Nearly got T boned lol
Did they have discrimination allowing all the Engineers be Engineers, solely because they happened to be Black?
The company my grandfather worked for as a mechanic was swingbridge motors, its makes sense now
1:06 top left corner black car, speed camera for sure…😎
…& then we discovered roundabouts & traffic lights & have been gridlocked ever since.
