Further Down The Purity Spiral

the title is a cheeky reference to my 2018 video “Down The Purity Spiral”, which is quite a bit different than this

Written by ShortFatOtaku

Hi, I'm SFO, and on this channel I make political and philosophical content. There's a lot wrong with the world at the moment, and I don't really have any way to affect political change other than making videos on pertinent topics, so I'll do what I can. My political position is a liberal centrist - I believe that free western capitalist democracy is the best political system we have, and that it's under attack from all sides, from SJWs, from religious extremism, from radical feminism, from identitarianism, from both progressivism and regressivism, from extremism from both ends of the political spectrum. If you're expecting me to either be alt-right, or side with social justice, you're going to be very disappointed.

  1. We all have opinions.
Some are stupid, some don't make sense, some even sound buttfucking insane.
Humans have opinions, it's only natural for anyone to point and laugh at an opinion that they find stupid.

Left, right, center, up, or down some one is laughing at you. So please take a breather, look at your opinion and laugh for a moment.

We share a burning dirtball and are all going to die horribly so It's ok to laugh and have fun anyway.

  2. I think money is no longer a problem for Molyneux. The guy had been taking Bitcoin donations for like 8 years before he got booted from Youtube. Accumulating from 2012 to 2017 meant he was taking donations when Bitcoin was between $10 and $1,000. If he managed to save even 20% of what he had been given, he's a multi-millionaire I imagine.

  3. Pretty good video until you embodied the enlightened centrist stereotype and told everyone in your audience that if they disagree with you it's because they have a political blindspot and couldn't possibly be because you're wrong about something. I fall just slightly libertarian of center in political compass tests yet I don't consider myself the arbiter of truth because of it, a lot of contentious issues aren't even a matter of objective fact like abortion, they purely come down to subjective opinion based on what you personally value. So for you to suggest that some staunch pro-lifer should think about their political biases simply because they disagree with you on it just comes off as pretentious as fuck to me.

  4. As someone who's been hovering around the center of the political compass for the better part of a decade, I've found your criticisms of the right wring in the last few weeks to be kinda crap.
A decent chunk of that criticism feels like it's thrown in without much thought, as though it's only there to show you're not only going after one side. That's what I see people take issue with. Brushing it off with "it's just the rightoids upset that I'm not always pitting out rightoid opinions" feels as badly done as the criticisms that people take issue with.

  5. Maybe people are mad because we are coming to the point where "centrism" is becoming synonymous with "coward." People believe that the left gets away with everything. That's mentally draining. I think that many people think centrists can't be trusted to stand up to what they see as "the enemy"

The left already did this, but like you said, the right is catching up. So the fence is becoming a pike. Tale as old as the hills. Every civil war goes this way. You either pick a side or you get trampled by both.

  6. Or, Dev, maybe you are wrong too? No one is perfect.

What is the point of centrism, if it can't anchor itself and just sways in the wind?
If not careful, centrism is going to become the universal morality where everything is allowed, that you mentioned in the middle of the video.

  7. It’s simply an extension of the very human trait of hierarchy imo.
As much as lefties squeal about how much they hate hierarchy they don’t. They just hate the current hierarchy and want to place themselves at the top, I think that explains evolutionary root of what becomes a purity spiral.

  8. maybe the purity spiral is the externalization of the spiritual journey/ ascension of an individual played out in the collective where it is dangerous, and ofcourse the collective entity starts to amputate the constituent parts that don't meet the standard, leaving only the chosen few standing, so the collective entity is 'trying in vain' to do what its constituent parts are trying to do individually, whether they're aware of it or not it makes no difference because it's happening metaphysically and so reflects in the collective

  9. With all the evidence of Lauren Southern being a lying grifter plus her "evidence" not being dated and easily fakable, I would take what she says with a grain of salt.

  10. As a viewer that would generally be considered far Right:

I understand why a Centrist would worry that, if the Right starts engaging in purity spiraling along with the Left, that society itself will not be able to bear the weight. However, you must consider that the Centrist appeal to tolerance – once the mainstream position in places like America and Canada – did not stop the Left from coming to dominate all of the institutions of social power, nor does it prevent the Left from sending civilization crashing to the ground on their own.

Admittedly, it is true that there is a growing problem with the fringes of the Right focusing more on pursuing their social goals with or without pursuing truth along the way. That is clearly a problem that needs to be solved. But the solution cannot be to adopt the apathetic levels of tolerance seen in among the Centrists. As you say yourself, the Left has certainly become more successful in pushing their agenda as they have spiraled. Though they have soured some people to their movement, their movement is focused and successful. When is the last time that the Classical Liberals were able to reverse the political gains of the Progressives?

The Classical Liberal culture finds itself having little philosophical basis for holding any standards permanently, and little passion to fight against its own destruction. The Leftism of the elite (and cosmopolitan wannabe-elite footsoldiers) did not happen in a quick revolutionary war; it was able to slowly pervade everything because it was working in Classically Liberal societies that had no defense against it. The far Right, particularly those that are willing to strongly hold Right-wing standards even to the point of potentially spiraling around them, is necessary to even have a chance against the Left. And, more than that, they are an inevitable reaction to the unfettered successes of an insane Left in liberal societies.

  11. Anyway Dev, I stay watching you because it helps me see not just the flaws in my arguments as a right populist, but the flaws in the arguments from the "disaffected liberals". I already know what the lefts arguments are. We all do, they suck, but I want to see what YOUR arguments are, since you folks are at least somewhat reasonable since I was in your position 8 years ago as well.
