What Sachs describes was already outlined years ago by the late political scientist Sheldon Wolin, who called it 'inverted totalitarianism.' Nobody listened. It was also described by Ralph Nader in the 2000 campaign, and rather than acknowledge the serious problems of systemic corruption, disgusting hypocrite Democrats deflected by calling him an 'egomaniac.' They successfully scapegoated him — meanwhile they go on to hold office again and things have only gotten worse, but they never own up to it, while also helping to rehabilitate corrupt Republicans.
