MP heads campaign to have Julian Assange pardoned by Donald Trump

Nationals MP George Christensen has exclusively told Sky News about his campaign to have US President Donald Trump pardon WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange before he leaves the White House.

Mr Assange is currently held in London’s Belmarsh prison, awaiting a decision on his extradition case related to the publication of confidential documents.

Many believe his exposure of wrongdoing is not something he should face charges for.

Mr Christensen has created a website which features a letter directed to President Trump and an e-petition which will be sent to the White House.

“Julian Assange has been a target of the Democrats actually,” Mr Christensen told Sky News host Brent O’Halloran.

“Hillary Clinton hates his guts, obviously for exposing who the real Hillary was.”

Mr Christensen said President Trump pardoning the WikiLeaks founder is “one way which he can stand up for free speech”.

“I’m hoping that he will pardon Julian Assange, it’s the right thing to do and I’m encouraging people to do that with this website.”

  7. Assange needs to be extradited to the U.S. first because he still faces prosecution in other countries for his actions as a whistleblower reporter. Extradite him first, then Pardon him and thereafter offer him asylum.

  15. Should this poor chap who almost certainly has a learning disability (if not then a narcissistic personality disorder) be in prison? Perhaps, but for his two sexual assaults in Sweden rather than his one sided, biased anti-liberal-democracy reporting. While Assange has given his de-facto support to the likes of Putin and Xi, this, along with his bizarre bias is not, and nor should it be illegal. I believe in free speech, even for those who spew utter shite.

  24. Julian Assange has been punished for revealing the evil in the democratic party. He should be commended for his bravery and honesty. He has suffered enough. Release him and jail those whom he exposed. That would be the right thing to do.

  31. You pardon some one because they are innocent not because it politically gains support. Similarly you don't use humans as war pieces to gather troops to any side of a war. You pardon Assange and Snowden because otherwise the lawsuits that are soon to come to the intelligence agencies and Whitehouse, for use of children all life for war plays, are far worse for this countries stability and ethics for if this country doesn't mediate without being forced into resolve it looks bad. You pardon someone because they were innocent or entrapped unwilling or knowingly because it's the right things to do. Obviously, nonbias has been destroyed in this country and people are acting like barabarians becuase the intelligence crimes that have gone on which led to the breakdown of maturity have won. Psychological warfare and recruitment of individuals since they were children wouldn't go on if mind war wasn't as effective as it is that we see right now. Presidents pardon innocent people, in this case each word I type proves the Whitehouse commits Intelligence crime location fraud. How long must this go on. NSA can't read.
