NYT is a duplicitous rag.
MSNBC is even agreeing with this NYtimes article
Great segment and enlightening quote from a wise woman.
Blame right-wing millenials and all sort of related crystal generations for this
I totally agree, let everyone have their say,. On college campus, on TV, newspaper, social media as long as they do not incite violence.
Cancel culture has made it across the ocean and is definitely out of control.
What is puzzling to the extreme are the places of higher learning where you find the most intelligent people, they haven't figured out a way to stop the heckler's veto. I would have thought it is a simple as fining people who literally disturb the peace.
At least religious zealots can bake cookies.
Stop calling dems progressives just because hilary co opted the bernie movement (not really).
Of course Ryan comes out with a bunch of idiotic caveats. There’s no segment he can’t ruin.
I cant understand blaming the left for cancel culture .
Seems to be the right wing that wants to silene decent .
People shouting at eachother: "We have the right to speak!!", meanwhile they don't want to listen to eachother.
I love how they're like "And they associate it with Democrats. Fair or not, that's what the world is now"
There's a reason this gets associated with Democrats, and really, Republicans don't even have to sell it that hard. Talk to any of these kids. Talk to any of the teachers who taught those kids to behave that way. Talk to any of the talking heads on MSM that propagate this nonsense.
Think any of them are conservatives? Think any of them are voting Republican?
New York times thinks? Lol
If they were right leaning, the dialogue about them would be far more aggressive. We have a problem on the left and for too long, we've nurtured and coddled this behavior and now we're seeing the damaging effects. This is the tip of the iceberg.
I loved the person who complained that the NYT was participating in both-sidesism, as if that's a bad thing to point out in this case, when both sides are clearly committing this error.
Free and liberal discourse especially when you are a news outlet. Sad that had to go this far before somebody on the left startedIs touting free speech again. This is one of the major reasons I'm a Democrat but not a liberal. Free speech open civil discourse are the only way to maintain a civil society please.
For real? Shaming is necessary to form society? So do you also think pain is essential to learninng? Spare the rod? Yike!
I like how Robby has his finger on the pulse of this issue. (5:00 is SPOT ON) As someone who identifies as a classic liberal/"bleeding heart libertarian," and who fondly remembers life on campus as being a bold and pioneering place for diversity of thought and the championing of free speech.. I agree 100% that we have a problem. Another commenter here mentioned that the problem today is that a lot of younger people equate "allowing" another to speak is equivalent to agreeing with them. This is NOT in any way, shape, or form what I would consider to be a classic liberal value.
I remember the 90's all too well.. when it was the extreme conservatives who were against freedom of choice, speech, or diversity of thought. Let's not go back to that.
Freedom is NOT a conservative value. It's not even a liberal value. It's innate in all of us, and no government or movement should have the power to undermine it.
The, everyone gets a trophy movement, produced a generation of narcissists! We're paying for it now!
Im only going to filter these segments on Kim's channels. if she's not here this show isn't worth watching.
Banning CRT and bigotry from schools isn’t “right wing version of cancel culture”….
Ruled by angry children
Twitter is garbage.
Shaming someone else's opinion is also free speech when it crosses thr line is when you eliminate someone's ability to speak or cause them physical harm or fear of violent reprisal.
Yeah, it fine when the woke and the left used it to their advantage. Now that is comes for them and elections are over, they don’t like it
It came to the halls of the elite rather than being used to demonize working people.
There is actually an iconic photo of leftist students burning a "Free Speech" sign on the campus of Berkeley a couple of years ago. Crazy times.
To answer your question "why?" Ryan— stop thinking rationally and let your emotions take over. Because that's what they have done
The future judges of American Idiocracy.
Simple, you don’t speak if I can’t speak
Developing your UNDERSTANDING of something does NOT mean you condone it. This fact, unfortunately, is completely lost on the cancel mob.
"They want to associate liberals with odious principles." *Associates actual leftists with odious principles.
In bygone eras….University was for intellectuals and people interested in higher learning. Now kids are told they have to have a degree to find success. Filling Universities with people more focuses on themselves and "their potential" than actually learning and contemplating the mysteries and wonders of our world.
