OPCW leaks expose ‘criminal’ Syria cover-up — and US media is silent

Pushback with Aaron Maté

The US media continues to ignore one of 2019’s top scandals: a cover-up inside the OPCW, the world’s top chemical weapons watchdog, that was used to justify US-led military strikes on Syria. Theodore Postol, award-winning professor of Science, Technology and National Security policy at MIT, joins Pushback to discuss the latest leaked revelations and what he calls the “criminal” US media silence on the story.

The leaked documents and testimony from inside the OPCW show there were major doubts about the allegations the Syrian government committed a chemical weapons attack in the city of Douma in April 2018. Inspectors who were on the ground in Douma complained that their findings were distorted and excluded. According to one OPCW whistleblower, this censorship was conducted under direct US pressure.

“I hold the press accountable for not doing what they should to help protect these [whistleblowers],” Postol says. “I think it’s criminal, as far as I’m concerned.”

  1. You mean to say the U.S. lies and forces others to lie on their behalf so they can continue blowing up innocent people?
That's a surprise, is it not?

  2. The one who pays the piper, the piper plays his tune. The Syrian government was said to use chemical weapons after they had defeated their adversaries and the media never found this strange.

  3. Some people know that their governments censor news. Here in the United States of America we are blind to the heavy censorship we are under. I'd rather know that I don't know.

  4. The fact The Intercept has failed to cover this momentous story should tell you all you need to know about Glenn Greenwald and his organisation. He is the embodiment of a limited hangout who was bought out long ago.

  5. Of course, the US is the biggest terrorist government in the world. They attack countries, because they want their resources and oil! They pillage and steal anything of value, leaving troops and bases in these countries, to continue to steal their oil and gas!!

  6. The big question I, and I'm sure many others, have is… What are we going to do about it? There's a lot of this kind of BS getting exposed these days but nobody is actually doing anything about it. So I ask again, WTF are we going to do?

  7. if this was true the MSM would be all over it to try and take president Trump down. The MSM doesn't cover up anything against President Trump and they continue to try to bring him down with LIES. If Trump found a cure for cancer the media would still find a way to bash him. # years of a Russian collusion that we are finding out more about were the Clinton paid Russians dossier. Now if this really happened under obumanation administration the media for SURE would cover it up. I googled this story and nothing backs up what you say. The only accusations is against Russian helping syria cover up the chemical attack. even bias news say President Trump was right. Get off of my recommendation you liar.

  8. I just got onto Brave, did a connection with Tor, and my top level post doesn't show up.

They are segregating us by location. What I say here, cannot be seen in another location.

  9. The US is lying about everything, Syria obviously, but also China, Russia (and the Soviet Union while it still existed), Iran, Venezuela etc.
The US is built on lies, genocide, war, racism and other -isms. In short, a country that belongs in jail, or a loony bin.
