The laboratory used – according to Dr Rima Laibow – was at Duke University North Carolina United States by Dr Fauci 5 years ago whereupon many scientists were angry at illegal bioweapon studies taking place there which is why – together with a $3.7 million grant – Fauci 'subcontracted' the research to the Wuhan laboratory in China.

In October 2019 100 or so members of the US army attended a military games in Wuhan and – unusually – won NO medals & yet mysteriously a month later (& after Wuhan's 100,000 5G antenna were switched on) people started dropping dead in the street..

can't the concept of saltation explain a jump in viral types? And if the mutation fits the environment in the same way as the AIDs virus, then that might explain the similarity. There was a mutation that happened to assist the virus in surviving and that matched some features of AIDs

If one assumes that the order and pattern of amino acids is found in nature by random chance, then the odds aren't good that similar patterns would arise in such random way. Mutations are random, yes, but the ones that remain don't remain in the population by random chance. This is the fundamental basis for biology and I'm really surprised that this doctor didn't think of this. First of all, this is what is called a preprint. That means that people submit their paper proposals for peer review and possible publication. Even the best papers found on this website haven't yet been checked by experts in the field to see if the results are reproducible and if the evidence reasonably leads to the conclusion. Some of the papers will go on to be published and some, like this paper, will not be published and even be withdrawn.

The basic premise of the paper is not about whether SARS-CoV-2 was made by humans but suggested that it was strange that the spike proteins (used to get the virus inside the cell) had four sections of amino acid sequences that were also found in HIV. The sequences their paper is all about are from 6 amino acids to 12 amino acids long. For some reason, they focus on the amino acids instead of the actual viral RNA encoding for those proteins since there is more than one sequence of nucleotides that will yield a single amino acid so looking at nucleotides would give one a more accurate way to compare the two viruses. To make matters even less logical, two of the four sequences don't even appear in the same order but the authors used some computer programs that lead them to believe that the spike protein as a whole folded and that the amino acid sequences in question would make up that actual binding site where the virus attaches to its cellular receptor. As more information came in about the virus and people were able to actually visualize the virus attached to its receptor, it became clear that none of the sequences highlighted in this paper were part of the receptor binding domain and a mutation in the gene for those amino acids would be less likely to change whether or not or how strong a bond could be formed with the cell in order to infect it. This might explain why the authors decided to withdraw their paper and it might have been an honest mistake based on the limited information available in the beginning of this outbreak. We have to remember that no one knew anything in the beginning so a lot of early stuff is bound to be shown inaccurate but this shouldn't be a judgment against the scientists themselves. It's kind of like early news reports of some terrible event where they report on what they hear but the full picture doesn't emerge until there has been time to see what actually happened. The authors wrote this paper way back on January 31st, 2020 and we have learned a whole hell of a lot since then.

Now, here's why I think there is likely to be similarities, not only between SARS-CoV-2 and HIV, but between those viruses and any other virus with a similar spike protein. If you have a key to a lock, that key is going to have certain common properties even though two keys won't necessarily unlock the same doors. A key has to be made of a strong enough substance so that you can put it in the lock and turn it and a key that was too flimsy to turn the lock is not going to work and that's why we don't see keys made from styrofoam or silly putty. A spike protein is kind of like that except it does need to bend in a certain way in order to let the virus in the cell, but that is something that spiked viruses have in common so you would expect there to be some common properties of something that serves a similar purpose, even if the viruses themselves aren't at all closely related. Something that is very important to proteins and their shape is whether or not they are hydrophilic (like water) or hydrophobic (don't like water; think of how you can't mix oil with water). Then there are various electrical signals that can cause a protein to change shape and so that part has to be right or it won't work. So what you have is a comparison between two keys with authors being surprised that they are both made of some of the same materials.

All this doesn't preclude this having been made in a lab or an escapee of a lab, but it doesn't provide evidence to support such a notion either. Also, there's no money in science, at least not for the scientist. I don't know where people got the idea that there was all this money in academia for the actual academic. Some schools have money because they educate snobs and their rich little brats or they are supported by their athletic program but it's rare for a scientist to get even into the upper middle class. These days, it's hard for a scientist to even find a job (and that was before the pandemic).

My god, why does everyone have such a hard time with this. ”MANMADE” IS NOT THE SAME THING AS “ESCAPED FROM A LAB” Trump, Pompeo and others have made the excellent point that this has a good chance that the virus WAS BEING STUDIED in thE WUHAN LAB and may have escaped by infecting an employee…. AS HAS HAPPENED IN THAT SAME LAB in the past.
