The Theory of Everything: Origin and Fate of the Universe – Stephen Hawking – Unabridged Audiobook

Author Stephen Hawking is widely believed to be one of the world s greatest minds: a brilliant theoretical physicist whose work helped to reconfigure models of the universe and to redefine what’s in it. Imagine sitting in a room listening to Hawking discuss these achievements and place them in historical context. It would be like hearing Christopher Columbus on the New World.Hawking presents a series of seven lectures covering everything from big bang to black holes to string theory that capture not only the brilliance of Hawking s mind but his characteristic wit as well. Of his research on black holes, which absorbed him for more than a decade, he says, It might seem a bit like looking for a black cat in a coal cellar. Hawking begins with a history of ideas about the universe, from Aristotle s determination that the Earth is round to Hubble s discovery, over 2000 years later, that the universe is expanding. Using that as a launching pad, he explores the reaches of modern physics, including theories on the origin of the universe (e.g., the big bang), the nature of black holes, and space-time.

  1. Do people still believe a dribbling mess in a wheel chair is or was top 5 most intelligent of men in our time? (He’s dead (apparently) so it isn’t libel. But consider the garbage he came out with? Which is pretty much unintelligible nonsense. Also consider this too! He was only suppose to live til mid twenties, he supposed that by 40 odd years….. it’s a miracle. ?

  2. Would you say this is absolute solid science? Or educated deduction?
Who would you want to fix your car…sink..stereo.
    Hawkings or an experienced tech.?
One applies another speculates yet we say wow this guy is a genius.. based on what?

  3. Seems to me that the proponents of theory… theory of evolution, theory of relativity, theory of gravity, theory of black holes, theory of quantum physics, theory of dark matter, theory of existentialism…have been allowed to get away with far too much for far too long

  4. The 'big bang' is a Myth, produced by those who don't know or understand, the DIFFERENCE, between "LIFE The Real Self", and the human PRIMATE.
DISCOVER "The Processing System of LIFE", and learn HOW to access its Permanent Libraries, and read any of the billions of individual Manuals on anything that has ever existed…. The Downside of the human species is, it Contains DOUBLE LOGIC in its GENOME, adversely affecting ALL human functions, including 'THOUGHT' and 'REASON', as well as causing 'SUFFERING' and 'DEATH', a FACT the human species, can neither DENY or escape.

  5. Very good book. One thing I must say modern day science is placing the believe of God through fire. This is a testing period and the truth will prevail which is that God is the source of life.

  6. For anyone not science oriented but love these things, consider taking a Philosophy of Science course at your local CC or University.

They cover similar topics but don’t delve too deep into the math. Just the implications and impacts like these books do. It’s amazing.

  7. I am listening to this on the 2nd September and what just popped up on the news Two colliding black holes produces a black hole with a mass 142 times that of our sun has been detected. This happened about seven billion years ago.

  8. The apostle Paul's letter to Timothy:

    Second Timothy

    1. This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

    2. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

    3. Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

    4. Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

    5. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

    6. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

    7. Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

    8. Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

    9. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.

    10. But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,

    11. Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.

    12. Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

    13. But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

    14. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

    15. And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

    16. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

    17. That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

  9. Iol @ Michael York. And why does it sound like he's reading a children's book? I don't even know how I feel about it. His voice is very soothing, but I keep expecting Austin Powers to show up.

  10. Almighty Allah says:

إن هذا القرآن يهدى للتى هى اقوم و يبشر المؤمنين الذين يعملون الصالحات أن لهم أجرا كبيرا o

Veril! this Qur'an doth guide unto that which most straight, and giveth glad tidings unto the believers who do good works that they shall have a great reward.
    (Qur'an,17:9)
The message of Qur'an is for all. Those who have Faith and show that faith in their conduct must reap their reward.
But those who reject Faith can not escape punishment.
    Allah says:
" We have guided him to the right path, now it is upon him to choose between being grateful or
    ungrateful",
    (Qur'an,76:3)

  11. How silly to proclaim that th idea of a big bang does prove that a GoDD force does not exist..ther s no connection: th origin, th mysterious infinite is tg GoDD force..in every equation..it s our uncertainty principle: our unknown: th beyond point beyond any equation…U can only eliminate th GoDD force if U prove an end to infinity… when U see , find, th finite boundaries: maybe they r walls hanging out there in th edge… which s absurd! Why do they keep using th idea of Godd as if it had to do with religion?nooo..it doesn't..itgot to do with quantum physics. With science…. religion is th dumb part of human lack of discermnt..cause to endoctrinate children does not make them smart but stupid… science leads to a mistery zone..an unknown..and that s Godd..tht s th life force..life origin..and we respect that as much as we appreciate being here and grateful for breathiing…. Step out of blind belief and think outside of th books and stories of th past..seek your own questions.. don't ignore what U ignore: it ll shadow a cloud upon your freedom..shrink you & make you small..thus you ll shout out in agression to defend that you got..your religion… unto which you v never had a choice: reach spirit.. Truth..discern…peek into quantum mechanics and you ll see how these scientists, including this one, are fighting hard th idea of a GoDD force..well….let them die, so they shall see… dimensions beyond this Realm…..th GoDD force is th eternal: even Atoms speak its name!!!! GoDD is th fuel..th nourishing source.. Light!!!! And that U ignore.. Not just now, but forever…it s made greater, faster, more bright…first…its th first spark of life light or all there is…..and it s being expanding…how on earth and heavens could we pretend to ever reach it when we v just been born.. given a body..a memory?

  12. Start of the lecture credits Aristotle re the earth being a sphere etc .. it id actually"Surya Sidhanta" circa 3101 BC or earlier .
Also includes calculation of tilt of Earth's axis (Obliquity) including the direction Earth’s axis of rotation is pointed, (precession).
and the cycle of it's variation from maximum to minimim to be 26450 years… (Current calculations..26000 years).

The text asserts that the earth is of a spherical shape. It treats earth as stationary globe around which sun orbits – a geocentric model .
It calculates the earth's diameter to be 8,000 miles (modern: 7,928 miles), the diameter of the moon as 2,400 miles (actual ~2,160)[and the distance between the moon and the earth to be 258,000 miles(now known to vary: 221,500–252,700 miles (356,500–406,700 kilometres).[The text is known for some of earliest known discussion of sexagesimal fractions and trigonometric functions.
    Abd more … 14 chapters in all…

  13. Between the boring, disciplined minds of scientists and the diverse, interesting minds of happier people lies a whole range of other people namely you, me and the rest of us. Moving from boring to interesting is similar to moving from being sad to happy. Our minds keep moving. Attempts to slow it down can be tragic. Scientist-philosophers let their minds move slowly and steadily while many others go about jerky start-stop mental engagements. Both are forms of tensions. One is emotional tension and the other is creative tension. Mostly it's a blend of emotions and creations.

  14. Good and evil are the same thing they have the same paths to get to our reality just they are different energy spectrums this explains why good people are capable of bad things

    Change my mind

  15. Hawking appreciated Kant a little too much for my taste. The great grandfather of communism/collectivism, the man that carried the torch for the ultimate dualist, Plato, deserves little if any respect in this day and age, frankly. Kant was garbage, and the intellectual grandfather of Marx and Hegel. A person much like Saul Alinsky and Noam Chomsky of our present times, getting WAY more press than they deserve or can rationally bear with their weak intellects…
