Recently, U.S. prosecutors indicted WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange on seventeen espionage charges stemming from the disclosure of atrocities committed by the U.S. armed forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. With global consequences directly affecting the freedom of the press, Assange stands to be extradited from the UK to trial in the U.S. under the Espionage Act.

In this event, author and activist, Miko Peled, speaks with three prominent activists who have persistently advocated for Assange’s release and freedom. Miko and the panel will tackle the following topics:

Julian Assange and WikiLeaks’ contributions to journalism
The campaign to prosecute Assange
Assange’s eviction from the embassy and his corresponding treatment by the British authorities
The likelihood of Assange’s extradition to the U.S. to face espionage charges
The lack of journalistic support and solidarity for Assange

  1. education is one answer to our problems..but i think unless the people take back control of the current currency then we just go round again, driven by blind idiots.

  2. I know this fight feels futile sometimes, gentlemen. And I know the frustration of apathy to the important matters of our day. But, history will record Assange as a hero to the people. This is not a new fight, it is just the one we must fight in our time.

  3. I should download this video and re-sync the audio. It's very annoying… great inverview though! (edit: I eventually did. It's much better! Especially with the Roger Waters parts ;))

  4. How can Clinton, Bush sleep without nightmare? They are both related to the British monarchy. History repeats itself until you stop pretending to be asleep.

  5. “By defending Julian Assange, we defend our most sacred rights. Speak out now of wake up one morning to the silence of a new kind of tyranny. The choice is ours.” – John Pilger

  6. The BBC published one article about the trial against Julian Assange, and it was about the first day of trial. In the same year, the BBC published several dozens of articles about the trial of Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard.

  7. Ray,
building an arc for important true information in the US is impossible because that country is lost to lies as both parties which build the 2-party-oligopoly are warmongers and liars and elitists who will suppress the truth about their own wars with any means including murder. The concentration in news organizations leads to billionaires controlling all media with large audience. This effectively prevents reporting the truth about the interests of billionaires, e.g. war. During the democratic primaries 2019, the mass media and the Democratic party ran a defamation campaign against Democratic Representative Tulsi Gabbard because she opposes the imperialst wars. Truth and journalism are dead in the US.
