In Arizona and on the Navajo reservation there used to be a coal fired electrical generating plant. The coal mines were some distance away and the coal was piped to the plant. The EPA hounded them for decades and a few years were successful in shutting down the facility. This, of course, resulted in unemployment and higher costs for energy in the region.

California continues to dismantle their nuclear plant near San Clemente. The plant was fully operational but now 64 billion dollars later, the abandoned hulk is visible from the freeway. So where does their power come from? From the Palo Verde nuclear generating facility west of Phoenix in Arizona.

But the Californians are smugly confident that abandoning this facility was a wonderful idea. Arizona gets NO power from this plant.
