Obtaining two vaccine doses remains the most effective way to ensure protection against Delta
With Delta, Pfizer-BioNTech and Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines still offer good protection against new infections
but effectiveness is reduced compared with Alpha
However, Delta infections after two vaccine doses had similar peak levels of virus to those in unvaccinated people
(with the Alpha variant, peak virus levels in those infected post-vaccination were much lower)
Two doses of either vaccine still provided at least the same level of protection as having had COVID-19 through natural infection
People who had been vaccinated after already being infected with COVID-19 had even more protection than vaccinated individuals who had not had COVID-19 before
Two doses of Pfizer-BioNTech have greater initial effectiveness against new COVID-19 infections
but this declines faster compared with two doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca
After four to five months, effectiveness of these two vaccines similar
however, long-term effects need to be studied
The time between doses does not affect effectiveness in preventing new infections
Younger people have even more protection from vaccination than older people

We can’t just look at the antibody levels and think that that equates to levels of protection
It still seems that you get a lot of protection from these vaccines, even if the antibody levels have drifted down to some sort of stable level
Surely, in the Popperian view of science, research has to be replicated in order to be accepted as a scientific truth! This is how Andrew Wakefield’s study which linked MMR vaccine with autism was found to be untrue. No one replicating the study has got the same results, but more importantly, all got similar results to each other in refuting the truth. This study also needs to be replicated and shown to stand up to scientific scrutiny before accepting it as a scientific fact. Presumably, that’s why the knee jerking response to the third vaccine is coming from politicians and not the scientists.

Its very hard to trust numbers, at least in the US, when hospitals are paid for each case they report and they count deaths as related to CV19 if it is detected. Notice the flu rates have disappeared, total death rates have not changed much at all. It is a real disease, it is dangerous. I got the vaccine and it didn't hurt me so far, 3 months on, Pfizer. I've never had the disease, I know of people that have had it and people that have died. I just don't think we are getting the whole truth from our governments. It doesn't help that Fauci admitted he lied to us. Governments need to have faith in their people and be transparent and the people will trust.

My take on the Oxford study is not so positive , what it says is that as the virus mutates the efficacy of all vaccines wain , fast forward 6 months from now as we hit the Echo , foxtrot et al mutations the vax will be less and less effective . If viral loads are the same between the vaccinated and unvaccinated isn't the vaccinated population posing the greatest threat? An unvaccinated person will be more symptomatic, more debilitated and more likely to isolate, thus shielding their viral load. The vaccinated person will have less severe symptoms or non, thus continuing to shed the virus in public.
John why the sad tone and pessimism when reporting on Australia & NZ have you seen the deaths compared to the UK? We are doing just fine despite a government that keeps its citizens locked down and a desire to go against evolution and risk the young through vaccination in an attempt to save the old and sick.

Thanks John. I finally convinced myself, now is a good time to get vaccinated. I'm still a bit concerned about the long term effects. I mean, you are injecting yourself with part of the sars virus. My concern is that the side effects might be cumulative, but if the side effects of the complete virus itself is cumulative, we still should be safer with the vaccin.

Astrazeneca not being used in the UK as a booster shot due to side effects. AZ says it is now producing vaccine for poor countries…I guess because they don’t have lawyers.

Have you ever thought about the cumulative effect of many vaccine shots (like 5-6). Versus if we would have never had a vaccine and all the effort would have been put on early treatment. (Including all cause deaths.)
